Learn to Swim Classes

STARFISH


Starfish classes operate for children aged 2.5 years and over (depending on ability and prior swimming).  The primary focus of these lessons is to be able to be completely water safe in the water by themselves.  Lessons are of 1/2 hour duration and can be attended 1-2 times per week.  The program is a 10-week program and the aims and objectives are integrated through skills based drills and activities to achieve competency in basic swimming areas including:


  • Bouyancy & Floating
  • Mobility, blowing bubbles & submerging in the water
  • Kicking
  • Dog paddle
   
AQUABUBS - these classes are run for babies from 7 months - 18 months old.  The primary focus of this class is water familiarisation.  Lessons are of 1/2 duration and babies attend once per week.  The program is a 10-week program and aims and objectives are integrated through songs, games and activities that are age appropriate.  Aquabubs is also an educational program for the parents/guardians who are required in the water for the duration of the lesson.

AQUATOTS - these classes operate for toddlers ages 18 months - 2.5 years.  The primary focus of this class is to build confidence, gain independence and have water safety embedded throughout the program.  Lessons are of 1/2 hour duration and children can attend 1-2 times per week.  The program is a 10-week program and aims and objectives are integrated through skills based activities and games that are age appropriate.  Aqua Tots is also an educational program for the parents/guardians who are required in the water for the duration of the lesson.
    

STINGRAY

   
Stingray classes operate for children who can swim and paddle confidently unaided over a minimum distance of 10m.  They do not need any flotation devices of swimming aids to swim.  The primary focuses of these lessons are to introduce strokes to the children including big arms and side breathing, and to work on coordinating these skills to become a freestyle stroke.  Beginner backstroke will also be a focus.  Lessons are of 1/2 hour duration and can be attended 1-22 times per week.  Focus skills include:

  • Continued improvement on kicking technique
  • Side breathing drills
  • Big ams (working to coordinate this to become freestyle)
  • Torpedos
  • Beginner backstroke
    

SEAHORSE

​​​Seahorse classes operate for children of an intermediate level.  The primary focus is on developing correct technique in:

  • Freestyle 
  • Backstroke
  • Breastroke (introduced at a later stage, once freestyle and backstroke are competent)
  • Butterfly (introduced at a later stage, once freestyle and backstroke are competent)
